"Wet" Macular Degeneration - Clinical Trials

Holz Study

Eligibility: Vision better than or equal to 20/230

Lesion Size: Less than or equal to 6 MPS DA

Lesion Type: Subfoveal Classic or Occult

Treatment: 8 x 2 Gy with Sham Control

Patients: N = 205 (178 with 12 months f/u)

Results at 12 Months

Greater than or equal to 3 lines of loss

Treated = 49% Untreated = 48%

Bergink Study

Eligibility: Vision better than or = to 20/200

Lesion Size: less than or = to 6 MPS DA

Lesion Type: Classic, Occult, or Mixed

90% < 4 MPS DA

50% Classic, 25% Mixed, 25% Occult

Treatment: 4 x 6 Gy with No Sham Control

Patients: N = 68 (63 with 12 months f/u)

Results at 6 Months

3 Lines of Vision Loss

Treated = 32% Untreated = 52%

6 or More Lines of Vision Loss

Treated = 9% Untreated = 41%
