Macular Degeneration
Early Detection
And The Amsler Grid
Comment: Early detection is important because, the worse your macular degeneration gets, and the larger the area of leakage becomes, it becomes harder to treat you.
| This is why you should learn how to use the Amsler Grid. If you don't have a grid, bookmark this page and come to visit any time you want to test yourself |
 |
See
the square box above: Cover one eye and note the
dot in the center. While keeping your eye trained
on the dot, notice the lines which cross over the
rest of the box. If these lines are straight you
probably don't have macular degeneration in that
eye. Then you should repeat this test on your
other eye. |
|

|
If the lines are bent or missing you have a vision problem in that eye. An example of an abnormal Amsler Test has been placed below. Note that each affected patient develops their own unique areas of distortion. |
